I was sitting in Peets today, job searching and happened to overhear the man next to me say hello to a friend who walked in. Afterwards, I introduced myself as follows. Me: I hate to be so forward but I couldn't help but overhear, are you in education? Man: Yes, I am. Me: I am too! What do you do? Man: I'm in a leadership position at ______ school. Me: Oh, really, because I'm looking for a job.... He then asked for my resume and offered his help. I told someone that I did that. His response: "Is that what you do now? Just give anyone your resume?" My response: "yes." This behavior isn't out of the ordinary for me any more, and I'm not afraid to do it.  I figure that the worst thing that I can happen is that the person I reach out to, thinks I'm rude and too forward.  But then I never have to see them again, so I figure it's ok.

All I really want to do is help kids (or adults) with learning differences.  I will happily take half than what computer programmers are paid. After spending over 20 years in school, and 9 years in the education field professionally, I have yet to find someone to take me on. I've signed on with an educator recruitment company and spend at least 4 hours a day looking for jobs, reaching out, etc. And yet...crickets or really fast rejections.  I actually appreciate the companies that reject me, and get back to me.  The worst ones are the ones that just don't have the courtesy to respond. I get that some schools and companies are so big, that they can't be bothered.  But, I'm not applying to these places. After spending hours on the phone with Covered CA and Blue Shield, a visit to the Alameda County Social Services office, everything was worked out. Somehow, both Covered CA and Blue Shield said my insurance was canceled by Alameda County.  Alameda County said they don't touch Covered CA.  I finally called the doctor's office, only to find out that I've been covered this whole time. I am grateful that I can afford Covered CA, but am beyond frustrated with our healthcare system. For the #1 nation, we sure have a lot of things that need improvement.
